I have excellent news for all of you, especially all those game lovers out there!
Starting this week, XIHA Life will host a weekly competition, The winner will get a FREE GAME!
* There needs to be at least 10 participants to the competition.
* There will be 1-3 winners, depending on the quality and the number of entries.
* Winners can choose a FREE GAME from Xihalife.com catalog of more than 1000 games!
* You can submit more then 1 entry, and you can join every week!
The competition deadline is every week on Sunday 10AM EST.
We will announce the winners and the next week's competition topic within one hour after the deadline.
The winners will get their prizes right away after letting us know which games they wish to get!
You will have a chance to win every week!
The weekly competition topics can be in any category or topic at xihalife.
Examples:
*Food: ------egg (Use eggs as one of the material to make food. Post your recipe with description on how you made the food and include a bunch of photos!)
*Photos: ------butterfly (Upload to your album one or more original photos of a butterfly. The photos need to be taken by you! Fill in the description and tell how you took the photo, the camera settings, etc.)
*Blogs: ------my daily life (Keep a diary of your daily life, tell about interesting things that happen and the ordinary things you do. Try to update it daily for the whole week, or at least as often as you can and include interesting photos!)
*Game reviews: ------time management (Download a game from the time management category and write your review with tips how to play. Include a bunch of screenshots taken when you play.)
We also really welcome your suggestions on the weekly topics. We will seriously consider using your good topics!
In addition to posting your own submission, we suggest you give constructive feedback to other people's contributions (keeping in mind that the idea is to have fun!)
Notice:
* All the submissions need to be original creations made by you!
* If there are less than 10 participants in any week, there will be no game prize for that week... so tell your friends to participate too!
* During public holidays the competition times may change, so read the weekly announcements carefully!
Cook food using tomato as one of the ingredients! Post the recipe, talk us through the process of making the food and include a bunch of photos! Post your recipe to the DIY topic under the food category.
The deadline for this competition is Sunday, August 26 at 10AM EST. The next topic will be announced at that time so please give us your suggestions during the week!
Please reply to this topic to let us know when you have posted your recipes!
Hmm let me see... how about I microwave a tomato and post photos?
Well I shall see if I can come up with something... like "tomato and chips" or "smashed tomato"... If nuthin' else I'll suggest something for the future competitions...
Yay! This is a game I like... I'm not a master of cooking but this sounds easy enough! The possibilities are quite endless but I guess I'll figure something cool...
1. Press the "Print Screen" (the key label can also be "PrtScn" or "PrtScrn") button on your keyboard. You can find it near the top right corner of the keyboard. You can also try holding "Alt" key at the same time, which would take a screenshot of only the active program (makes no difference if you're in full screen). 2. To view the screenshot for further use, use Paint (if you have Photoshop or any other graphics program, even better). When you are in Paint, click on "Edit" and then click on "Paste" and your screen shot will appear. 3. Save it on the hard drive in JPEG (.jpg) format.
Please note that this week's topic is cooking (using tomato), the game reviews were just listed as an example of possible topics.
Wow, this is such a great way to get a game for free, I can't believe we're not seeing more participants... it almost seems those who play games don't cook?
Umm... well I didn't actually participate and I guess the time's up... and well i'm not much of a cook... but if you're taking suggestions I'd like to see a game review competition next week!
Time is up! The first weekly competition didn't quite go as planned and unfortunately we didn't get enough entries. As the rules state we need at least 10 entries to give game awards. However, we did have some nice contributions and I'd like to give some special thanks:
- Thanks to sHELBY who was the first to submit. Unfortunately, as someone pointed out on the forums, the photo used in the submission comes up first when you look for "tomato pie" in Google. We were specifically looking for original contributions rather than copies from other sites (www.xihalife.com/bbs/food/diy/4177.htm)
- Thanks to Jani and Wen who were helping out by submitting excellent recipes with photos even though they are not, as the managers of the site, eligible to win.
- Special mention also goes to Arja, who submitted a great last-minute effort just four minutes before the deadline. There was no photo included, but the omission was well explained and the recipe looks absolutely delicious. If anyone cooks Arja's tomato-cheese soup please post some photos! (www.xihalife.com/bbs/food/diy/4328.htm)
We're not giving game prizes this week due to lack of submissions. The best submission this week was Jani's tomato noodle soup (www.xihalife.com/bbs/food/diy/4321.htm) with detailed cooking instructions and a great set of photos. Thanks to everyone who participated, let's try to get more people join in the next week! Next competition will be announced shortly later.
The second competition (week 35, ending September 4!) is going on! The topic is:
* Game reviews
Download any game you want, play it and write a review using XIHA's new review system! After you finish playing, go to my games on your own web space. There is a link under the game which lets you write review and give score. You may submit more than one review, but only one can win. It will be a huge bonus if you take screenshots while playing and upload them to the review. It is not mandatory, but if you want to win a free game...
The deadline for this competition is Sunday, September 4 at 10AM EST. The next topic will be announced at that time so please give us your suggestions during the week!
Please reply to this topic to let us know when you have posted your review! Let's hope this week we will get more participants than last week. Remember, up to three best reviews will win a free game of choice but this number depends on how many people participate. So get all your friends to join in too!
If you have any questions, please ask by replying to this topic!
webmaster: I'm assuming you're using Windows, so here goes:
Please note that this week's topic is cooking (using tomato), the game reviews were just listed as an example of possible topics. now how do you get it on xiha??
You have an image file on your computer (something that has .jpg at the end of its name), right? Then see right below the text box you are writing. It says "File to upload". Click "Browse" next to it, and choose the image file from your computer. Then click Upload. It takes a little while, and then the image appears in your message. You can add images to any bbs message or blog this way.
You will see the image in the preview of the message, and in the actual text editing box it will appear as "[img1]". You can move the image to a different part of your message by moving this text. You can also make it smaller by adding ":medium" or ":small" to it, like this: [img1:medium]. There is a lot you can do to format the images, see this message for more details: www.xihalife.com/bbs/home/250.htm
Another way to add pictures is by uploading them to our photo album and then using the [photo] tag, which is described in this topic: www.xihalife.com/bbs/home/3206.htm.
Has anyone else out there joined in on this week's competition? It would be kind-of sad if nobody else joined in even though this competition is really easy to go through and do.
Seems there's a few participants... I'm quite amazed some people here keep saying they want free games but when they actually have a very easy and fun way to try and score a freebie, they don't bother trying. Come on guys, this isn't hard! You have an amazingly great chance to win a free game of choice if you participate.
Did you read the messages in this topic already? If not, please start by doing that...
This week's competition is defined in message number 19. To sum it up, we're asking you to write a review of any "service game" you want (choose from www.xihalife.com/tags/games/service) Here's how it goes:
3. Go to the game's page again. There is a link above the comment box and recommendations, which says "Write a review". Click that. You'll be asked to rate the game and write your review.
It'll be a huge plus if you upload images of the game (screenshots taken while playing) too. You can do that by using the file upload below the text box when you are writing your review.
In a sense that by doing more reviews you will learn to make them better... yes.
Did you learn how to take screenshots and how to upload them to the site, by the way? That is one part of the process. It's not required to upload your own screenshots but that is one way to stand out from the crowd...
I did do another review but, my computer messed up on me before I could finish making it how I wanted it to be so, I don't have any of the screenshots I took in it... oh well.
That review on Turbo pizza will just be a little less interesting.
sorry i cant particiapate in this weeks competition.may be i i will take part in next week.by the way can you give me an example of game review of any game?plzzz
The competition deadline has been extended... the new deadline is TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 4 at 10AM EST (New York time) so you still have time to enter! We are now accepting reviews of all games. Choose any game and write a review of it and you can win it for yourself totally free!
Wow, I'm guessing barely anyone entered since the deadline was extended... oh well. No I will just have to wait till school gets out for the day for when I can find out who won.
This is exactly what we were looking for: review of the game in detail accompanied with bunch of screenshots. Rather than just throw in a bunch of pictures, Sali also went through the trouble to upload screenshots to her album and then used photo-tags to nicely decorate the review.
Even though this week we didn't have enough quality entries to give a game prize, we decided Sali's contribution deserves a game prize anyway. Congratulations, Sali, hopefully this is the first of many wins to come. Everyone else, thanks for participating and please give Sali a challenge for the next weekly competition! Everyone has a chance to win every week!
